Encouraging Helpers

Exodus 17:10-13 "So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill.  As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up -- one on one side, one on the other -- so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword."

I can picture Moses standing on top of a hill, overlooking Joshua's battle against the Amalekite army. Holding the staff of God, Moses' hands are held high, appealing to God for help -- and the Israelites are winning! However, during the battle, Moses gets tired... it is a long battle... his hands begin to lower in fatigue. When his hands lower, the Amalekites begin to win... then, Aaron and Hur come alongside Moses, personally lifting Moses' arms, as he appealed to God -- until the battle was won.

God tells us to support, encourage, and pray with each other as we go through life's journeys and battles. He gives us the gift of people in our life who help keep our hands and eyes lifted to the LORD. At times, we are meant to be the "lifter" and at other times, we are the one who needs to be lifted.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for placing people in my path who encourage me and lift me up as I walk on this journey with You. LORD, You have richly blessed me with their presence in my life. I pray that You to use me to support and encourage others; to lift them up in their walk through life and their journey with You. Amen
