2 Chronicles 20:15 He said: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the LORD says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's.' "
2 Chronicles 20:17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.
I encourage you to read 2 Chronicles 20, one of my favorite chapters in Scripture. It is an account of King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah and Jerusalem inquiring of the LORD as they receive warning of a vast army approaching them for a battle they could not win on their own. In the face of great calamity, they resolved to cry out to God and trust in Him. They didn't rely on their own strength and acknowledged they had no power against the vast army. They turned to the LORD their God. And after they turned to Him, they praised Him, even before they knew the outcome of the battle. The LORD delivered them from the vast army... they didn't fight the battle. He fought it for them... and He will do the same for you.
What is the vast army in your life? What is your battle? It could be a health crisis, a marital breakdown, financial hardship, or a situation that seems insurmountable. Our human tendency is to fight our own battles, relying our own strength. But we quickly become weary, worried, and burdened. God wants us to remember that it is He, the great I Am, who will fight these battles for us. It is He who goes up against our vast armies. If only we turn to Him, trust in Him and stand firm, without fear or discouragement, because He is with us.
Heavenly Father, I praise You for being the One who will battle my vast armies. I thank You that I am not going through this life or any trial with only my own strength. You are with me. I praise You for helping me to stand firm without fear or discouragement -- as I can be confident of Your power in all my circumstances. Amen.
