In the book of James, God tells us to not just listen to His Word. He tells us to do what it says. But how can we do what He says if we do not read and know His Word?
Imagine learning about someone you have not met. You can gather the opinions from others about that person, but your knowledge about them is limited to other's opinions. But when you personally meet them, you begin to know that person for yourself on a completely different level. I encourage you to meet God personally! Get to know Him for yourself. Read His Word. Cover to cover.
When I started on this new part my journey with God, I bought a study Bible, and started to read the New Testament, then moved to the Old Testament. But I didn't read just to "get through it." I didn't read looking for specific answers. I read my Bible to simply get to know Him. My Creator. The great I Am.
The Bible is not just a collection of ancient "stories." His Word is as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago. God gave us the gift of Scripture as a roadmap for our lives. And He wants us to do what it says!
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that You always bless my reading of Your Word. I ask You to give me a hunger for Your Word and for You to saturate me with an understanding that can only come from You. Amen.
